Araghchi updates Saudi counterpart on Iran-US nuclear talks

Iran and Saudi Arabia have historically had complex relations, marked by periods of tension and reconciliation. Recent diplomatic efforts have focused on regional stability and cooperation. The latest meeting in Jeddah highlights ongoing discussions on bilateral ties and Iran’s nuclear negotiations with the US.

AhlulBayt News Agency – The foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia met in Jeddah to discuss bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, upon his arrival in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. His visit is part of Tehran’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with neighboring countries.

During the meeting, Araghchi signed the Saudi Foreign Ministry’s memorial book and urged the Muslim world to take action against regional threats, including the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza and efforts to erase Palestine.

The Iranian diplomat also briefed his Saudi counterpart on the latest developments in Tehran’s indirect negotiations with Washington.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding mutual relations across various sectors.

On Friday, Araghchi announced that the fourth round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States would take place in Oman on Sunday.

His regional tour includes a visit to Qatar later on Saturday as part of his diplomatic engagements.

Speaking in an interview on Friday, Araghchi stated that his visit to Saudi Arabia aligns with ongoing consultations between the two countries on regional matters and Iran-US negotiations.

He emphasized that Iran has maintained constant communication with regional nations since the talks began in April.

“The sustainability of any potential agreement largely depends on the concerns and interests of regional countries regarding the nuclear issue,” Araghchi said.

Mediated by Oman, Iran and the US have held three rounds of talks in Muscat and Rome on April 12, 19, and 26, aiming to reach a deal on Iran’s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions.

Both sides have described the negotiations as “positive” and “progressing.”

The fourth round of talks was initially scheduled for May 3 in Muscat but was postponed due to logistical and technical reasons.
